On September 11st, the Lecture Hall 823 in the Science Building was bathed in a rich academic atmosphere and youthful vitality, where the Xiao Group successfully held this year's freshman meeting and celebrate this year’s Mid-Autumn festival. This event not only built a platform for exchanges between new and senior students but also aimed to help the freshmen quickly integrate into the group and gain a deep understanding of the group's unique culture and rich academic atmosphere. Prof. Wen-Jing Xiao, Prof. Jia-Rong Chen, Prof. Liang-Qiu Lu, Prof. Ke Gao, Prof. Ying Cheng, Prof. Zhi-Han Zhang, Ms. Shan Yi, and all members of the Xiao Group participated in this event.
At the beginning of the event, Prof. Wen-Jing Xiao delivered an enthusiastic welcome speech for the new students. On behalf of all members of the group, he extended a warm welcome to the first-year graduate students of 2024 and addressed the freshmen. Prof. Xiao's speech inspired every student present and pointed out the direction for their academic careers.
Following that, the event progressed to the introduction of the research group. Prof. Liang-Qiu Lu provided the freshmen with a detailed introduction to the group's development overview, research directions, training modes, and unique cultural construction. He emphasized that the Xiao Group is not only a platform for academic research but also a warm and supportive family.
Immediately after, Prof. Jia-Rong Chen conducted an in-depth yet concise introduction to the group's management, including daily norms, academic requirements, and other aspects, giving the freshmen a clearer understanding of the academic life they were about to embark on.
To further enhance mutual understanding among the freshmen, a special self-introduction session was arranged during the event. Graduate students of the first year, including Han Hu, Hui-Hang Cheng, Qing-Yun Lei, Jing Huang, Gao Liu, Fan Zhang, Jin Li, Yu Zhang, Tao Xu, Jia-Xi Chen, Jie Zhao, Yun-Long Han, Xin-Yi Jiang, Xiao-Yun Huang, Yan Yan, Jia-Hao Deng, Jiang-Wei Zeng, Yan Li, Chen Wu, and first-year PhD students Xue-Han Yu, Xue-Rui Wang, Bing-Bing Shi, and many others, took the stage to showcase themselves and share their academic interests and future plans.
Moreover, senior doctoral students presented their research achievements and academic prowess through academic reports. These captivating presentations not only allowed the freshmen to glimpse the allure of academia but also sparked their profound interest in scientific research.
Last but not least, Prof. Ying Cheng conducted a comprehensive and detailed introduction to laboratory safety within the research group. She emphasized that laboratory safety is the prerequisite and safeguard for academic research, and that every student must strictly abide by the laboratory rules and regulations to ensure their own safety as well as the safety of others.
The freshman meeting concluded successfully in a warm and cordial atmosphere. It not only deepened the friendship between the new and senior students but also infused new vitality and hope into the Xiao Group. It is believed that in the days to come, every member of the Xiao Group will work together with even greater enthusiasm and unwavering conviction to write a new chapter in academia.
