Recently, Yu-Qing Xiao, a 2022 Ph.D. in organic chemistry from our research group, has been selected to attend the 74th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting (Chemistry) in 2025, becoming the first doctoral student from our group to receive this honor. The meeting, organized by the Lindau Nobel Laureate Foundation and the Sino-German Center for Research Promotion, will be held in Germany from June 29 to July 5, 2025.
Since 1951, the series of meetings have brought together Nobel laureates and outstanding young scientists worldwide to discuss cutting-edge scientific topics. After a rigorous selection process, Miss Xiao stood out among the 30 chemistry Ph.D. candidates chosen for the 2025 Sino-German Lindau Program.
Miss Xiao graduated with a bachelor's degree from the College of Chemistry, Central China Normal University (CCNU) in 2019 and was subsequently admitted to our research group for her master's studies under the supervision of Wenjing Xiao. In 2022, she transitioned into the Ph.D. program, co-advised by Prof. Liang-Qiu Lu and Prof. Wen-Jing Xiao. Her research focuses on the efficient synthesis of heterocyclic compounds and their applications in drug discovery. She has published two first-author papers in Angewandte Chemie International Edition (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2023, 62, e202212444; Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2024, e202408426), showcasing her exceptional research potential in areas such as hyperconjugation-driven reactions and the construction of chiral quaternary carbon centers.
Yu-Qing acknowledged that her successful selection was attributable to the dedicated mentorship of her advisor and the unwavering support from her research team. She looks forward to engaging in face-to-face discussions with 2021 Nobel Laureates in Chemistry, Prof. Benjamin List and Prof. David MacMillan, learning from their insights on asymmetric catalysis, and connecting with outstanding young scholars all over the world to lay a solid foundation for her future academic career.
